Ansel Adams Post

Ansel Adams was born in Feb. 20 1902 in San Francisco, California of a family who was currently wealthy. His grandfather had done well in the timber business and his father was a businessman. Living in San Francisco, Adams experienced and broke his nose in the earthquake of 1906. His family lost most of their wealth soon after. As to Adams education, he did not do well in the many schools he tried out. He was tutored at home for a while. The farthest he had formally got in education was getting a diploma from Mrs. Kate M. Wilkins Private School. Instead of further schooling, the rest of his energies were poured into learning and playing piano.
He grew to love the environment. He was the keeper of a Sierra Club lodge, and began to take pictures in the area. In 1927, he created his first full picture recognizable today: the Monolith, the Face of Half Dome. His photography career rose slowly from there, and rapidly in the 1930s. He became known as being a photographer and an environmentalist. He died in Apr. 22, 1984.
I chose this picture because of the contrast of  the gate in the foreground, the building in the background, and the shadows. This is a church in New Mexico in 1941. The wide range of values present in the photograph gives it more impact.
